Track Progress: Measuring Your Key Results

Tracking progress is the backbone of the OKR framework. Since Key Results are designed to be measurable, you need a consistent system to monitor their movement. This typically involves assigning a score or status to each KR, providing a quick snapshot of its health.

Common Scoring Methods

  1. Percentage Completion: For KRs with a clear start and end value.
    • Example: KR: "Increase website conversion rate from 2.5% to 4%." If current is 3.25%, then progress is (3.25-2.5)/(4-2.5) = 0.75/1.5 = 50%.
    • Scale: Often represented as a percentage (0-100%).

  2. Confidence Score: A subjective assessment of your confidence in achieving the KR by the deadline.
    • Scale: Often 1-10 (1 = very low confidence, 10 = very high confidence), or High/Medium/Low, or Traffic Light (Red/Yellow/Green).
    • Red (0-0.3): Seriously off track, unlikely to achieve without significant intervention.
    • Yellow (0.4-0.6): Some progress, but at risk. Needs attention.
    • Green (0.7-1.0): On track or close to completion.

Best for: Indicating risk and prompting discussion, especially useful for Qualitative Objectives.
