Check-ins

Stop chasing updates.
Beam asks for you.

Set up a check-in cycle once. Beam sends it on schedule, in each person’s own time zone, reminds anyone who hasn’t answered, and puts every update in one feed.

No credit card needed.
Beam Check-ins Team Feed: the weekly team update with 7 of 8 submitted, and Daniel Kim's answers

Sound familiar?

“Monday is status-chasing day.”
“Updates are scattered across chat, email and meetings.”
“By the time I’ve read everything, it’s Wednesday.”

Set up a cycle in four steps

Build it once in Manage Cycles. From then on, Beam sends it, reminds people and collects the answers.

01
BASICS

Name it and pick who gets it

Send it to everyone, to specific groups or teams, or to named people, and exclude anyone who shouldn’t get it.

Beam cycle setup, Basics step: cycle name Weekly team update, sent to everyone
02
CONTENT

Choose who sees answers, then build it

Public answers go to the team feed. Private ones go only to the person’s manager. Anonymous ones show only combined results. Then add questions from the question library or your own, a mood pulse and a goal reflection.

Beam cycle setup, Content step: visibility set to Public, and a first question, What did you get done this week?
03
CADENCE

Set the rhythm

Daily, on selected days, weekly, every two weeks, monthly or once, at the time you choose in each person’s local time. Start now or on a date, and end never, after a number of sends or on a date.

Beam cycle setup, Cadence step: weekly on Friday at 9:00 AM in each participant’s local time
04
REVIEW

Check it and launch

See the whole cycle on one page, edit any part, then launch it or save it as a draft.

Beam cycle setup, Review step: a summary of the cycle with an Edit button on each section
CHECK-IN CYCLES

Run as many cycles as you need. Each on its own rhythm.

A weekly update for everyone, a daily standup for engineering, a pulse for another team. Each cycle has its own people, questions and schedule, and people can belong to several. See how each one is doing, send by send.

Beam check-in cycle summary: weekly team update, 88% submitted, a six-week completion trend and one person outstanding
Beam Team Feed: Daniel's answer says SSO is behind, and three teammates reply in the comment thread
TEAM FEED

Every update in one feed. Replies in the thread.

Public check-ins land in a team feed where teammates comment, @mention each other and build on each other’s answers. A blocker gets an answer in writing instead of waiting for the next meeting.

REMINDERS

Never chase again. Beam does the follow-up.

Email reminders go out when a check-in is due and when it’s overdue. See who has submitted each time, and remind anyone missing in one click. People on leave show as out of office until their return date, so you know who is actually missing.

Beam cycle responses: 7 of 8 submitted, with a Remind button next to the one person who has not answered

“I like the mood feature. It’s a very subtle way to give insights into how your staff may be feeling.”

Using check-ins to track goals? Read Regular Check-ins and Reviews in our free OKR guide.

Do we need Slack?

No. People get an email when a check-in is due and answer in Beam.

Can people answer anonymously?

Yes. Anonymous check-ins show only combined results, and they’re limited to questions and the mood pulse.

Does it work for teams in different countries?

Yes. Each person gets the check-in in their own time zone.

Can one person be in more than one cycle?

Yes. People can belong to several cycles, each with its own questions and schedule.

What if someone is on leave?

They set themselves as out of office in their profile, with a return date. Their check-ins show them as out of office until then, and the cycle carries on for everyone else.

Cancel the status meeting. Keep the updates.
